Make a really stripped out two door Wrangler, with no backseat, a/c, stereo, carpet, nor sound deadening, steel wheels with all terrain tires, basic fold up bikini top, manual transmission, only safety things that are required by the gov, paint it in olive drab, and use a Multiair 4 cylinder. Call it the American Bantam edition.

Why the Multiair and not the VM Motori four?

I like this idea. Maybe a diesel version?

HMMMM Yes.
![]() 11/13/2013 at 21:30 |

Because the army jeeps were gasoline 4 cylinders.

So...import the Mahindra CJ3B?

I demand a fold down windshield! Who am I kidding I'm not your buyer but honestly a great idea could see this working on a couple different vehicles.

No

Striped out Jeep Wrangler

No, just a gas four. We want this to be as inexpensive as possible.

The Wrangler has a fold down windshield.
(Pic found online. Not my Jeep or my kids)

Wholly crap! Was honestly talking out of my ass really thought that was determined to much fun and taken away for safety reasons or something. Excellent!

New idea for a jeep:
Chassis of a jeep with nothing in it except everything that makes it stop and go. Oh and diesel with a 6MT. Call it the "What we actually want when buying a jeep" edition.
![]() 11/13/2013 at 21:42 |

THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR NOT IMPORTING THE MAHINDRA CJ3B FUCKER!!!!

A likely Fiat base? Already comes with a small turbo-diesel option so no engine development costs, or multiair whatever. Probably would need reinforced body or even proper old school frame. There could be hope if Fiat already has something like his little trucklet.

No diesel because that will add costs. Just want an incredibly basic model, as I posted. There has to be mandated safety things, this could be so easily done by Chrysler and they would sell like gangbusters.

The fold down windshield is under threat for the next generation, I think aerodynamics/fuel economy are bigger problems than safety though. The roll cage should make it strong enough in a rollover to pass the tests.

Thought it was gone but I was corrected quickly! Just seemed like it was fun so it must be dangerous in the eyes of the safety laws and there by banished.. I love it but am obviously not a jeep person.. But I did bury fake jeep in a snow drift once..

I don't want to drive that shit box from the subcontinent! I want a proper simple Jeep, and you know they would sell a shit ton of them!
![]() 11/13/2013 at 21:47 |

You can have your Bantam, all I want is a diesel jeep.
![]() 11/13/2013 at 21:48 |

So, basically a demilitarized version of this, but a little shorter and with all-terrain tires. I can't see under the hood, so I don't know what engine is is carrying.
![]() 11/13/2013 at 21:48 |

No, it needs to be a Wrangler.

Calm your stuff man. I wasn't suggesting they rebadge that thing. I was trying to point out that Fiat builds a small simple off-road capable vehicle and might know a thing or two about cost cutting on such a project. Also since they have engines for this, they should be tuned more for truck-like power delivery thus simplifying power-train development of theoretical small Jeep.

I'm saying that they just drop a Multiair 4 into a Wrangler, and I don't like diesels, at all.
![]() 11/13/2013 at 22:01 |

I guess when you said "American Bantam edition" I just started picturing something much smaller like the 80" wheelbase WWII Jeeps.

That's why a started with a stripped out 2 door wrangler, they're only 15" off from the original concept.

I was disappointed to discover that it seems like only the long wheelbase JKs are available in military spec, not the short wheelbase. It's too bad this doesn't exist, as it looks nice.

Just looked it up and you're right, the two door is not so much larger as I had thought. Guess the 4 door Wrangler has really skewed my perception of how large the new models are.
![]() 11/13/2013 at 22:17 |

That's pretty much perfect.
![]() 11/13/2013 at 22:18 |

The four doors are ridiculously huge.
![]() 11/13/2013 at 22:57 |

A wrangler ;)

That should sell well to the literally dozens of people who want an underpowered less comfortable jeep
